Written across the ball was a message thanking the fans for “10 incredible years” of support, along with “BEERS ON ME!” Happ is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season, making the Cubs’ September 24 home finale against Miami potentially his last guaranteed appearance at Wrigley in a Chicago uniform. The gesture also continued a tradition Happ has quietly established with the Wrigley bleacher crowd. Back in 2024, he similarly tossed fans an autographed ball wrapped in cash during the Cubs’ final home game, writing that the drinks were on him. Happ has spent his entire MLB career with Chicago since debuting in 2017, earning an All-Star selection in 2022 and four consecutive Gold Gloves from 2022 through 2025. And while $300 may not stretch quite as far at a major-league ballpark as it sounds, there’s still a chance Happ returns to Wrigley this postseason depending on how far Chicago advances.
