@miriamslopez Haha not true but okay. Married 16 years been together 20 not divorced and I never changed my name. I am very happy wife too. There is more to marriage than your last name trust me.

@gonewiththewindy41 What about couples that share a bank account?

@gretchenconrad I married a Spanish man and kept my own last name in the style of his culture. Our children will have both our last names. I agree with many comments that this might be correlation, not causation.

@iammonikachoudharyy Or maybe women who take their partners last name are more traditional and have no means to leave or won’t even if the marriage sucks.

@bbbeautyy111 I mean you don’t automatically have to take the husband’s name if you want to share last name…. My husband took my last name, it’s quite common in Sweden in my generation (90s kids). We agreed that we wanted our family to share last name and he thought that it wouldn’t make sense that I would create our children and then they would have his last name as he didn’t sacrifice his body and risk his life by giving birth, I did.

@channahcasey More likely to subsume their identity to another perhaps, therefore more invested on staying married

@janicemills703 Nonsense

@matej_grammt Imagine the divorce rates in countries where changing any part of anyone's name is prohibited 😂

@allcircuitsarebusygoodbyee now my husband HAS to take my last name unless he wants us to end in divorce 😆

@leo_retnuh however if a woman (as she is the one that must change her name) has changed her bank details, her passport, her insurance, everything about her life, to have this new name, it is much harder to separate and start a new life, especially if the marriage is controlling or abusive, and they are more likely to stay in bad situations as it is harder to get out (not impossible but a hell of a lot harder). this post is just spewing traditional crap and taking correlation as causation and ignoring what might be behind it

@lawrence_1995 You people still getting your asses kicked by correlation and causation confusion lol

@unicorn.534441 🙌🙌🙌

@carrie_me_awayy Or your just type B and on to your 100th different career path and you forget to change it along the way

@eliseivanica well, you’d imagine that the people who aren’t taking the name are less traditional, they probably got married solely for love, for fun… and not for society or expectation, they have boundaries, they know what they won’t and they won’t try and make it work for the sake of it… where as people who do are probably more likely to put up with more, traditional people tend to see marriage as important to who they are, they’re more likely to just put up with bs rather than choose themselves 🤷🏻‍♀️ so it makes perfect sense to me.

@sarahelinke Wow, you guys are so keen on women changing their surnames. I'd say religious women are more likely to change their names and less likely to divorce (not because their marriages are happier, but because they put up with more).
