Some photos feel rare because they catch famous people before the rest of the world caught up. Others show ordinary moments that only became fascinating once everything around them changed. Arnold Schwarzenegger was still a bodybuilder posing for a crowd in 1977. Terry Crews was voted most likely to succeed in 1986. Charlie Chaplin brought Albert Einstein to the premiere of City Lights in 1931, and Margaret Hamilton stood next to the stack of handwritten code that helped get Apollo 11 to the moon. Then there are the ones that are just strange to look at now. A divorced couple dividing up their Beanie Babies in 1999. The empty desert that would become the Las Vegas Strip. Otto Frank standing back inside the attic where his family hid. Each one is a moment that only happened once, and the photo is the only reason anyone still gets to see it.
