syracuse.com@syracusedotcom Taxpayers spent $26,874,790 on coaching in Section III during the 2024-25 academic year. Through public records, we created a first-of-its-kind database to detail what nearly 5,400 coaches across Section III’s 90 public schools earned. The records show what coaches, who devote hours every week to everything from practice plans to transportation, are paid for playing a fundamental role in students’ development. The data covers Section III public high schools during the 2024-25 school year. It shows former Fayetteville-Manlius running coach Bill Aris was the highest-paid coach. He earned $62,717, over $20,000 more than the next-highest-paid coach. But most coaches aren't making a lot of money. The average non-volunteer coach earned $5,155. @pc1126 Varsity coaches make roughly 5 thousand dollars or less with taxes taken out. That’s working year round. Football coaches make a little more and any coach who has been coaching for 10-20 years.

@nickflorin1 The extra they get for daily practice, late night games + weekends make it likely less than $3 per hour. The number needs to be bigger
