Harvey Weinstein was sentenced in Manhattan to 15 years in prison for a felony sex crime. Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul who set off the #MeToo movement, was convicted last year of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley, a former production assistant, in SoHo in 2006. Weinstein’s original 2020 conviction of sex crimes was overturned two years ago by an appeals court that ruled he didn’t receive a fair trial. Last year, he was convicted on a single count of a sexual act against Haley again. Weinstein has denied raping or sexually assaulting anyone and is likely to appeal. Haley addressed the court on Wednesday before Weinstein’s sentencing, saying: “Having been sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away. Making the decision to speak up will have me looking over my shoulder for years to come. It’s a life sentence for me.” Earlier this year, Weinstein faced another trial in which he was accused of raping actress Jessica Mann. The jury was deadlocked and the charge was dismissed. In California, Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison, but an appellate court ruled that Weinstein will be resentenced.
