“This personal piece was created in 2017 when I was moving back to New York. I was leaving Portland and wanted to create something that was a ‘thank you’ to everyone that I worked with, my neighbors.” - Rich Tu, Photoshop User, 23 years Executive Creative Director and Partner at @wearesundayafternoon, Rich shares his concept and process creating “Peace”, designed and crafted in Photoshop. “At the time, I was creating in Photoshop within an hour. So, I gave myself an hour challenge to create this.” “I ended up drawing a lot of hands and feet as a challenge, especially with the articulated fingers. I’m blocking out the hand, essentially. I’m creating the fingers, there’s a little divot that’s in your hand.” “This was the first drawing I made with my brushes, around 17 or 18 point. In this hour challenge, it took me about 5 minutes to draw this hand, another minute or so to create the shape. The hardest part was creating the individual elements all the way down to the fingernails. This hand took me about 20-30 minutes here.” “Each hand has an individual hue and saturation layer.” “To make it feel like they’re individual hands I’m sliding the hue slider.” “Sliding the hue up and down essentially creating 5 or 6 different hands.” “After that I’m just duplicating. Duplicating and making the composition feel very layered and then adding backgrounds, adding shadows.” “The feeling of creating something in Photoshop and having it live physically, it’s like magic.”
