Velon CC@veloncc MVDP an ‘outsider’ despite 175km win 🌈 Mathieu Van der Poel still does not consider himself a favourite for victory in the World Championship road race on Sunday even though he pulled off a remarkable 175km solo win on Stage 5 of the Tour of Luxembourg. The 177km Luxembourg course contained more than 2800m of climbing, but the worlds course in Montréal is 273.7km and contains 3803m of climbing. 📸 Getty Images

@el144a Well the bookies put him at 4th favorite. I’d say that’s about right. Also, the dutch squad doesn’t have the same strength as the Belgians for example, where not just evepoel is a more natural climber, but wout is too

@pablorafa7 I believe what MVDP says. The Montreal circuit was ridden the fastest ever. If they ride it as fast as the race, there is no way neither him or Wout can survive to the finish. That’s my opinion
