This post and journal contain spoilers for the followings comics released in early September: Absolute Superman 23, Daredevil 6, The Deadman 4, Escape 9, Legion of Superheroes 1. • My top pick in this stack is either Escape or Absolute Superman! Escape, by Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña is a brilliantly paced behind-enemy-lines war story, with anthropological animals like bears or bats rather than humans. Remender once read that we empathize more with animals than we do people(?). I think it’s working… Absolute Superman on the other hand is bringing another powerful action and character building issue as Kal faces The Toyman on his quest to find Braniac. This issue was like a power-fantasy takedown of the 1%. Jason Aaron is pulling no punches and leaving no crumbs in the Absolute Universe. • The Deadman continues to be a BLAST. I know some people see the amount of text and think it looks tiresome, but I personally don’t want it to end. God’s secretary has never actually seen Him, but she believes deep down that he’s in his office doing the most important work. The Deadman learns “faith.” What a gag! Legion also presented a brilliant number one with plenty more set-dressing to go, and Daredevil is slowly setting up a new arch that can’t seem to escape Kingpin’s influence. #imagecomics #dccomics #readingjournal #absolutesuperman #comicbookcommunity
