The figures for this absolute catastrophe are beyond comprehension: the conflict that ravages the country has already claimed more than 150,000 lives and forced displacement of more than 12 million people. In terms of food, the situation is catastrophic. According to the latest reports from the Integrated Food Security Classification (IPC), famine (phase 5) has been officially declared and confirmed in several key locations, including El Fasher (North Darfur) and Kadugli (South Kordofan). In total, more than 19.5 million Sudanese suffer from acute hunger and 825,000 children under the age of five suffer from severe acute malnutrition, the deadliest form. Yet international financial support is tiny compared to real needs.
