Three automatic annual calendars. Three gold cases. And just €7,750 between the least and most expensive. The brief was deliberately narrow: a current-production annual calendar, self-winding, cased in gold, and positioned in roughly the same price bracket. That leaves us with three very different answers from Patek Philippe, Rolex and A. Lange & Söhne. Patek Philippe starts with the category’s origin. It patented its Annual Calendar mechanism in 1996 with Ref. 5035, and the Ref. 5396R-016 brings that lineage into its 30th anniversary year, combining twin apertures, date, moon phase and 24-hour indication in rose gold for €62,574. Rolex makes the calendar change itself the technical centrepiece. The new 5 Hz Calibre 7190 and patented Haplos system make day, date and month jump simultaneously at midnight — for €57,250 in Everose gold. Lange packs the most parts into the smallest watch: 491 components inside a 36 mm pink-gold case, with an outsize date, separate day and month displays, and the highest price here at €65,000.

@madaxel2024 Lange by far.... The Rolex is'nt bad but it's missing the Rolex design marks... The Patek is just flawed.... The two windows feel too close and compressed, the date breaks the subdials - as most modern Pateks far overrated.
