The Pakistani government has said it will not allow any violent group to reach Islamabad or block roads, as authorities prepare for planned political protests. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the Islamabad High Court had ruled against disruption of public movement and road closures, according to Dawn. Tarar said it was the administration’s responsibility to ensure that public movement was not disrupted. His remarks came amid planned protest activity by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Jamaat-i-Islami. Jamaat-i-Islami began a protest march towards Islamabad on Sunday over the petroleum levy, while PTI has announced a protest for September 27. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb warned that protests could potentially cost the economy around Rs120 billion per day, according to Dawn.
