Extremely grateful to be Honored at this year’s Caribbean Music Awards. While my talents have been recognized by the Grammy’s and the American Music Awards, nothing compares to the recognition of my Caribbean sisters and brothers. As a son of Belize and child of the Caribbean, the foundation of my Music career is rooted in rhythms of the land of the free by the Carib Sea. Initially they called me Shabba due to my heavy baritone and ability to recite every song from the great Shabba Ranks, line for line. I aspired as an artist to be like Shabba, Super Cat, Bounty Killa, Beanieman and Buju Banton. I can’t sing, but as a human being I wanted to be like Bob Marley. His songs saved my life! They gave me hope, calm, love and peace in world of constant war in Brooklyn Vietnam. It was no coincidence that some of my biggest songs to date are with reggae icon Barrington Levy which changed my life forever. On my second Album gdfather buried alive, my dream came true while i was living a nightmare, when I was able to do a song, Quasi OG, with my all time hero Bob Marley and the Wailers. A full circle moment if ever there was one. History shows, I always took Belize and the Caribbean with me, my Music, in my interviews, everything i do. I aspire to do for Belize what Bob Marley did Jamaica. Thus in 2010 when the Government of Belize appointed me Ambassador of Goodwill, Music & Culture, it was consistent with what I’d been doing my entire entertainment career. In 2020, when I was elected to the House of Representatives and then Leader of the Opposition, I embarked on a global diplomatic tour building bonds with my counterparts, establishing sister city relations and promoting the interests of Belize. Fast forward today, I am grateful that my dual legacy as entertainer and political leader contributing not just to the betterment of Belize but the wider Caribbean is being honored by my peers. Testament that the sun rises after the long night of suffering. Congratulations to the other Honorees and Nominees 👏🏾 SB
