Ever notice how streetlights turn into messy streaks and starbursts the second it gets dark? That could be astigmatism. ✨🌙 For people with it, headlights, traffic lights, and streetlights don’t appear as clean points of light. Instead they explode into glare, streaks, and glowing halos, and for a lot of people, that makes night driving genuinely stressful. The cause is all about shape. With astigmatism, the cornea or lens is curved slightly irregularly, so light doesn’t focus onto a single clean point on the retina. It scatters unevenly, leaving vision blurry or distorted. And it always looks worse at night, because your pupils open wider in the dark to let in more light, which cranks up all those effects. Everyone experiences it a little differently, and glare or halos can sometimes come from other causes too.
