Single mother, trying to teach me how to be a man. And the way she did that was by telling me to never stand down- if you need to, pick something up. But never back down. And as kid, you listen to your moms. When my little brother came along, she'd send me outside to fight for my little brother. And that's how I got tougher and tougher; I'd always be outside fighting."'.

@makmkemper reminds me of Dasani’s story in the Invisible Child by Andrea Elliot — it touches on a child in a sort of similar situation, but broadly talks about the experience of being a child in America experiencing an extreme cycle of generational poverty & what happens to a family when you only “rescue” one child from it. highly recommend the reading to everyone, and wish this man much peace. ♥️

@happyaverageguy You can only learn how to be a man from a man. A man advice would’ve been. If they block your way find another way if they push you walk away only fight when there is no other way out and help can’t get there in time but stall them for as long as possible and when you engage be swift and decisive and objective is to get away not to win. Wish and ask for peace but be capable of extreme violence for situations where peace is denied and you have no way out.
