It might have been the best thing that ever happened to me because it got me out of the city. That's where I was a few months later when I get a call from a co colleague, saying that they'd found bone fragments from Tommy and Mitch. I wanted to pay my respects, and see exactly where they'd been found, so I arranged to visit the site."'.

Twenty-five years ago Tyree Bacon entered the South Tower of the World Trade Center with three of his colleagues, but he was the only one who would return. This is the story of Tyree, his colleagues, and the unknown woman who saved his life. This story was written at the request of @zohrankmamdani as part of a series his office was compiling on the stories of first responders. I’m very grateful for their initiative and assistance, especially the wonderful @karamccurdy.

@bohemienroro When he mentioned still smelling ashes to this day, this strikes a chord. Ashes are STILL detectable scent-wise in and around the furnace buildings in concentration camps from WWII, and that is more than 80 years ago! Imagine the next few decades in NYC.
