This post and journal contain spoilers for the following comic issues released in August: Daredevil 5, Avengers Armageddon 3, Only the Savage are Left 3, and Absolute Wonder Woman 23! The new Dark Horse hit, Only the Savage are Left, gets another gold star for me this month. Kaplan is three for three on writing masterful opening pages, and perfectly pacing each issue with connective flashbacks and dialogue, all while Stefano creates beautiful stuff of nightmares with the art. Absolute Wonder Woman 23 also gets a gold star, kicking off a brand new arc. Kelly Thompson is spinning “Greek” mythology in such fun ways, while remaining steadfast to an extreme of who Diana is. This book also boasts one of the best art teams in comics with Hayden Sherman and Jordie Bellaire. Just look at slide 14. Ever see a comic page with so much aura? Daredevil by Phillips & Garbett had a great opening arc, and I’m eagerly awaiting the fulfilling of the omen! Avengers Assemble continues to be an impressive event effort, taking advantage of character moments between classic duos like Spider-Man and Human Torch. This is one I’m more interested in where it goes than what it does if that makes sense. Both Marvel books should flow into Chip Zdarsky’s Avengers 1 in November.
