REVIEW: This book immediately grabbed my attention b/c it has two narrators I really enjoy, Abigail Reno & Peter Cross, and the awesome cover & title caught my eye. The blurb marketed this as a paranormal rom-com, but after reading it, I have to say itās marketed wrongāthereās a dash of romance and a āfewā funny moments, but this is MUCH more of an emotionally layered paranormal mystery/thriller. The story explores grief, acceptance, letting go, & unfinished business. The story is told through dual first-person POVs of teens Tessa & Reed. I enjoyed getting both perspectives as they have a LOT of history. The story starts out like a typical YA, with Tessa & Reed having had a hostile teen dynamic. Tessaās dealing with her fatherās financial struggles. Meanwhile, Reedās a Harvard-bound valedictorian who seems to have it all, but we soon discover his lifeās not as perfect as it appears. After a heated argument, Tessa accidentally punches an elderly woman & then claims she organized the graduation party at an old mansion. This happens VERY early on & is a setup for whatās to come. The real story begins when Tessa & Reed wake up inside the mansion surrounded by police & discover theyāre dead. I was wondering how the author could make an entire story out of what comes next. Well, rest assured, it gets interesting very fast! They learn about the ghost world theyāre ināand theyāre literally racing against a clock to pass on to the afterlife. Thereās a bit of comedy woven in, & an enemies-to-lovers romance, but itās a subplot of a much bigger story. šØ CONTINUED ON NEXT SLIDE WITH QOTD! The chapters are short & thereās a lot of shifting between Tessa & Reedās POVs to keep you engaged. The climax has thrilling, confrontational scenes & heartbreaking momentsāI literally gasped āOH NO!ā at one point. š Definitely have your tissues ready! @jeans_stacked_shelf I haven't heard of this one. I do read outside of my comfort genre from time to time when something has gotten great reviews, like project Hail Mary. I absolutely love that one and I never read sci-fi
