Melissa Chang@melissa808 Just a few minutes from @ritzcarltonoahuturtlebay is the Kuilima Farm Stand. @_marisayamane told me to check out Virgil’s because they have the best banana lumpia! Each one is $2 and they sell so many that they are constantly cooking it — so they’re always served fresh & crunchy, with molten hot local bananas inside and a warm caramel drizzle. I asked Aurora, the owner, how much they cook a day and neither she nor the kitchen crew could guess. Indeed, in the time I was standing there eating my turon, people from all over the world drove up in the rain just to get some. One Filipino family from San Francisco bought BAGS of it so they could all enjoy it on the plane ride home. These are huge because she uses a particular wrapper imported directly from the Philippines. The crunch is different, too! If you have the time, they also serve it with ice cream, which I’m sure is glorious. I also bought their tupig, a mochi dessert wrapped in banana leaves and features young coconut and sesame seeds in every bite ($3). It was good, but the banana lumpia/turon is the thing to get. There are other little stands at @kuilimafarm with shave ice and other produce, but I was pretty full after this! 📍 57-146 Kamehameha Hwy Open 9-5 daily (even holidays)
