@wplucey Olivia, What a way to end your summer--with a major splash! Porto Cervo’s look was intentionally designed rather than inherited. Architects including Luigi Vietti, Jacques Couëlle, and Michele Busiri Vici created a romantic, low-rise vernacular style: irregular whitewashed forms, local granite, small lanes and piazzas, terraces, arches, and façades resembling an evolved Mediterranean fishing village. Alisarda, the airline founded in 1963, improved access; it later became Meridiana and subsequently Air Italy. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, founded in 1967, made Porto Cervo a major center for international sailing and superyachts. NOTE: By the later 1960s and 1970s, Porto Cervo became the stomping ground for European aristocracy, film stars, industrialists, fashion figures. and yacht culture.
