SAIT@sait As Academic Chair of Automotive Programs #HereAtSAIT, Chenoa Hansen is creating a supportive culture for women in skilled trades from inside the organization out. 🛠️ “If we role model the right way to treat women and everybody, then students become ambassadors as they enter industry. They will be the people that change culture in their work environments.” She makes a point of spending time in automotive classrooms and labs, getting to know the women students and making sure they feel supported. Chenoa sits on the steering committee for SAIT’s Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) Retention Program, designed to increase female representation in apprenticeship education through mentorship, barrier reduction and initiatives promoting cultural change. And she’s prioritized bringing more women faculty and staff into SAIT’s automotive programming. “Experiencing the struggles I’ve had during my career progression in male-dominated sectors, I really believe in giving women a chance,” says Chenoa. “Women bring significant innovation and creativity to work environments.” Behind the scenes, she’s empowering a safe and respectful learning and working environment. From carving out time for inclusion-focused micro-learnings in meetings to promoting discrimination and harassment response training, she ensures faculty members are informed and equipped to support students and one another. Looking ahead, Chenoa wants to continue making an impact in a role she doesn’t take lightly. “When I see all these women students in our classrooms, knowing where they have come from and where they are going, I believe it’s good for them to see a woman in this type of role, so they know there’s more out there if they want it,” she says. “There is always more.”

@d.ivuu @shnoobydoo Honestly, I did see you a couple of times while I was at SAIT, and I really appreciate the help and support you gave me and other students. During my two years there, I saw you helping students in different situations, and it definitely didn’t go unnoticed. I’m sorry if it ever seemed like we didn’t cross paths much, but I’m genuinely grateful for everything you did for us. Thank you for always being there for the students! 👏

@kat.automotive We Invite Chenoa to come out to our shop and encourage and meet our Female Technicians and apprentices any day plus she can say hi to our Head Technician who was a SAIT Apprentice 4th Term Instructor for many years!!
