15 August 2026 marks the 80th Independence Day of India — and the 80th flag hoisting at the Red Fort Complex, a monument that has witnessed four centuries of history. Built as the palace fort of Shahjahanabad, the new capital of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the Red Fort Complex reflects the refinement of Mughal architecture and a distinctive fusion of Islamic, Persian, Timurid and Hindu traditions. Inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage property in 2007, the Red Fort continues to stand as a powerful symbol of India’s history, heritage and independence. Eighty Independence Days.
