So we hear you might think you're a cinereous vulture? 🤔 Here's some signs to help you find out! While you probably don't actually think you are a cinereous vulture, it is important that we bring recognition to these misunderstood and under-appreciated birds. International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD) is a day to celebrate all vulture species and breakdown misconceptions to protect these birds facing rapid declines worldwide. So why are vultures important? They are nature's clean up crew! By consuming dead animals and organic waste, they reduce the spread of diseases and recycle nutrients back into the ecosystem. This means vultures likely prevent deadly diseases from devastating wildlife, livestock, and even people. Additionally, the vultures' diet helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions that would typically be released during decomposition. YOU can support vultures today by visiting the Zoo and learning about our residents, Eve and JD!
