When they lure him to a remote cabin, he’s murdered, & they’re trapped to survive a darker threat. REVIEW: This was my 1st book by Mallory Arnold, & the cover & title grabbed my attention. I went in blind, but I was told it was a multiple POV locked-room thriller & the audiobook had a full cast—who doesn’t love all that?? For the most part, this is fast-paced, very easy-to-follow, & unpredictable throughout. It starts out feeling like a revenge thriller but morphs into something darker and gets chaotic towards the end! The multi-POVs in first person, mostly following FMCs Ruby, Cham, & Nora, who join forces after discovering that they’re dating the same man, Jason. The story has a gripping start, with the women at a police station, injured after surviving a horrifying night, while Detective Mike Brown interviews them. On audio, I was immediately immersed because the prologue is told as a transcript interview in a multi-voice format. From there, the story jumps back to each woman separately dating Jason. He’s a con man using them for their money, and I REALLY disliked him. He changes his personality depending on the woman he’s with and pretends to be affectionate. I had to suspend my disbelief at how gullible the women were, especially when they gave him large sums of money without asking many questions! When a wild series of events brings them together, and they realize they’re dating the same man, their nice days are over (thank goodness!!). Ruby’s inherited remote cabin is the perfect place to lure him where he can’t walk away. I found the story immersive and entertaining overall, but around the midpoint, the pacing slowed and things began to feel a bit silly. I stuck with it, though, and I’m glad I did because roughly past the 65% mark on audio, the story kicked into high gear.
