The iconic tesseract sequence was built using massive physical sets, wire rigs, and in-camera techniques instead of relying entirely on CGI. Even with his latest film, The Odyssey, Nolan continued pushing practical filmmaking, shooting on real locations with practical seafaring effects and even having IMAX develop new cameras specifically for the production. It’s a big reason his films feel so immersive and timeless.
