The first is when Trump says he wants to strike Iran’s infrastructure. That’s their ideal scenario—when people have no internet or satellite TV because of power outages and are forced to watch their country lose its bridges and power plants. In those conditions, these killers can rule the streets from the backs of pickup trucks with machine guns, telling people that America’s goal is to destroy the country, not the IRGC. The second time they celebrate is when Trump says that regime change in Iran is not the objective and that attacks on the IRGC, the Basij, and their leaders will stop. The period when they were most worried was when Israel was targeting Basij forces with drones and the United States was saying that regime change would happen. Today, because of Trump’s current approach and his claims about negotiations, they are laughing at him over mosque loudspeakers and making jokes about him.
