I just covered the most unique World Cup story you’re ever going to hear. Sport is the world’s language, and a group of Scotland fans in Morocco just proved it. Swipe for the story behind the story. One that’s includes: beer, golf, football, beer, Casablanca, square sausage, tagine, tattie scones and beer. #worldcup #scotland #football #morocco #soccer It feels like quite a bold statement to call this the most unique World Cup story when it was filmed 3,485 miles from where Scotland were playing Morocco… in Boston. Brian Doyle (right) turned a corner of Marrakesh into Glasgow for a day. #worldcup #scotland #football #morocco #soccer Fry up to start the day, and these lads literally brought square sausage through customs to make sure breakfast was done properly in Marrakesh. Unreal from them. (Square sausage, for those that haven’t had it, is class and a Scottish staple) 18 holes of golf. 6 Scots vs 6 Moroccans. Every man donning the colours of his country. Your countries are playing each other, so you decide to turn it into your own mini Ryder Cup. Each team was led out by their captain before belting out their national anthem. It was obviously lighthearted, but there was genuine passion from both sets of players. You could feel the excitement, and the nerves. The Scots presented the Moroccans with traditional shortbread before the first tee. One of many small gestures that made the day what it was. The teams could barely speak to each other. Not because of the Scottish accents. The language barrier. Didn’t matter. By the end they were joking, competing and having a laugh like they’d known each other for years. Morocco won. This was their home course though, and Scots aren’t exactly famed for being sun-familiar. These lads gave it one hell of a battle. The whole thing was organised by The Ace Marrakesh Experience. Brian, what an idea. Probably the best fan experience I’ve ever seen. Right, we’ve had traditional Scottish scran, time now for the Moroccan equivalent. A beautiful tagine was put before us. Chicken, sausage, beef, veg and a boat load of cous cous. After a day of cultural comparisons, we’ll call the food battle a draw
