🦂 Decoding the Venom Arsenal of Androctonus Scorpions 🧬 This study provides a comparative proteomic and enzymatic analysis of venoms from Androctonus amoreuxi, A. australis, and A. bicolor, three medically important scorpion species. Using electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, the authors reveal pronounced species-specific protein profiles and hundreds of low–molecular weight venom components, dominated by disulfide-rich peptides. Functionally, all venoms showed hyaluronidase activity, supporting its role in venom dissemination, while protease and phospholipase A₂ activities were minimal or absent. Notably, antibacterial activity was detected in crude venoms of A. amoreuxi and A. australis, with selective activity retained in hydrophobic fractions of A. australis. These findings advance venomics research with implications for antivenom optimization and the discovery of novel bioactive compounds. 📚 Reference Megaly, A. M., Miyashita, M., Alqahtani, A.
