Allan Jung@allan.jung Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov. 11 because it marks the end of World War I, when hostilities ceased at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. The holiday was originally called Armistice Day to honor veterans of that specific war. In 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Worcester held its 2025 Veterans Day Parade which, this year, moved from Veterans Inc. on Grove Street, down Main Street to city hall. As Veterans Day neared, programs honoring those brave men and women who served our country in the Armed Forces have been occurring at area senior centers, including the Worcester and Northborough senior centers.
