But they didn’t have two 5s — just a 6 and a 4 — and for once in my life, I decided to be kind and pretend like he’s younger than he is. It’s cliché to say “my dad is my hero,” but if there’s anyone who’s earned that title, it’s this man. 16+ hour days, 6 days a week for 11 years straight — all to give me a life I didn’t have to fight for like he did. He taught me everything — what business actually means, what it takes to earn respect, and how important family really is. Working by his side for the last 9 years, 11 months and 4 days has been the greatest privilege of my life and sometimes, I’ve taken that for granted. The truth is: everything I do at Sandwich Sandwich is for him. Every idea, every risk, every early start and chaotic day — it all comes from this constant search to make him as proud of me as I am of him. This past year has tested us in ways we didn’t expect. We opened shops in a new city, and whilst trying to keep everything together, we lost my grandma. The kind of loss that shakes the ground under you. But he shows up. He always does. To build something that matters. Happy 54th (55th) birthday to the man who taught me everything I stand for. I love you, Dad. We keep going.

@zennajane Thank you for making the best sandwiches around! I started coming to the small shop just off Baldwin street 10 years ago and won't ever stop raving about these sandwiches. We often do a 200 mile round trip to get one! Big loves to Pappa Sandwich Sandwich!
