About Caleb Flynn
American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn is on trial in Miami County, Ohio for the murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn, on February 16, 2026. The 40-year-old former pastor is charged with aggravated murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence after allegedly shooting Ashley in their Tipp City, Ohio home and staging the scene to look like a home invasion. Flynn has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in Miami County Jail on a multimillion-dollar bond.
Flynn appeared on American Idol Season 12 in 2013 but was eliminated during the Hollywood round. At the time, he worked as a worship arts pastor at Living Word Church in Vandalia. Prosecutors allege Flynn called 911 reporting an intruder shot Ashley, though investigators found no signs of forced entry and said evidence suggested the scene was staged. Ashley Flynn, 37, was a teacher and volleyball coach at Tipp City Schools and the couple’s two children were asleep in the home at the time.
The trial gained further attention after Flynn’s mistress, Alleigha Botner, testified in September 2026. She stated Flynn had a two-year affair with her and sent texts saying he was willing to sacrifice his daughters, job, and church to be with her. Flynn allegedly referred to his wife as “douche” and “spawn of Satan” in messages, and said he planned to tell his family about a divorce on the day of the shooting.
