About Caleb Flynn American Idol Audition Singing
`Caleb Flynn` appeared on Season 12 of `American Idol` in 2013 as a music pastor from Tipp City, Ohio. He auditioned with a video of himself singing "Lean on Me" and received a golden ticket to Hollywood week after an in-person audition where he performed "Chain of Fools" by `Aretha Franklin`. During Hollywood week he was eliminated before the live shows.
On the show, Caleb described himself as a faith-driven music pastor and spoke affectionately about his wife Ashley, crediting her with encouraging him to audition. His bluesy, slowed-down rendition of "Chain of Fools" with an a cappella interlude drew praise from judge Keith Urban, who called him a "rock ’n’ roll Viking," while Jennifer Lopez said the performance was "perfect".
Caleb has since become the focus of a criminal trial in Miami County, Ohio, after his wife Ashley was fatally shot at their home in February 2026. Prosecutors allege he staged the scene as a burglary and presented evidence including messages to a mistress, while the defense maintains there is no direct forensic evidence linking him to the killing.
