About Mooncake
`Mooncake` is a small pastry traditionally eaten during the `Mid-Autumn Festival` in Chinese and other East and Southeast Asian cultures. It has a symbolic round shape and is often filled with sweet lotus seed paste, sometimes with a salted egg yolk in the center.
There are two main styles. Baked mooncakes use a dough of golden syrup, oil, and flour, then get molded and baked with an egg wash. `Snowy mooncakes` skip baking and use a glutinous rice flour wrapper served cold. Fillings range from lotus and red bean to taro and five-spice peanut.
People gift them as a token of appreciation and family reunion. The 2026 festival falls on October 6, so bakers like `@constellationinspiration` have shared homemade versions with creative shapes and colors ahead of time.
